Latest news on conference realignment11/10/2023 Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz asked, “Did we count the cost for the student athletes in this decision?. Why add even more stress?”Įven football coaches picked up on the impact for students in other sports. A University of Oregon softball player tweeted, “Anyone going to talk about all the other sports that play multiple games in a weekend? What happened to mental health of student athletes being important? The balance of practice, travel, school, and having a social life is already hard enough. Student-athletes themselves already worry about the impact on their physical and mental health, as well as their classroom performance. Baseball players from Arizona may be playing baseball outside in Michigan in April. For sports that play outside, realignment may mean playing in very different environments. This is true both for the schools that have changed conferences and the schools on the East Coast and in the Midwest whose students will now also have to fly to the West Coast several times per season. These effects will be more pronounced for student-athletes who play Olympic sports and often have more than one game or match per week. ![]() (Photo by Jacob Snow/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Icon Sportswire via Getty Images between the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Arizona Wildcats on May 19, 2018, at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, AZ. Oklahoma has been touting the move when making its case to recruits. ![]() Texas and Oklahoma will combine their great histories with membership in the nation’s strongest football conference when they begin SEC play in 2024, making them even bigger threats on the recruiting trail. Losing their rivalries against Oregon and Washington if those matchups don’t continue also would mean the loss of a key recruiting tool. But Oregon State and Washington State are in remote locations that struggle to recruit anyway. Gorney said Stanford and Cal may not be affected as negatively as Washington State and Oregon State because players often attend those schools for reasons beyond football. ![]() Gorney said joining the Mountain West or American Athletic conferences will hurt them because the quality of competition will drop. The remaining Pac-12 schools need to be careful about their next move. But it is certainly a topic of discussion that could come up? Absolutely.” “Has everybody weaponized that negative recruiting? No, not necessarily. “I’ve just always believed that negative recruiting is recruiting, and it’s been happening as old as time,” Wiltfong said. Remaining Pac-12 members Washington State, Oregon State, Stanford and California may have the uncertainty of their conference’s future used against them in living rooms across America. Gorney said a downside could be the newest Big Ten schools running into problems when West Coast recruits consider braving the cold and snow late in the season. “But there could be wins there along the line that weren’t there before because now USC and UCLA are in that conference.” “I don’t think Nebraska is going to come in to California and have half of their class be California players,” Gorney said. Pentecost ember days11/10/2023 ![]() “Before Gelasius the ember days were known only in Rome, but after his time their observance spread. ![]() While they were initially observed only in Rome, their observance quickly spread as the Catholic Encyclopedia further adds: Lucia), after Ash Wednesday, after Pentecost Sunday, and after September 14th (Exaltation of the Cross). ![]() In the Roman Synod of 1078 under Pope Gregory VII, they were uniformly established for the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday after December 13th (St. The Liber Pontificalis ascribes to Pope Callistus (217-222) a law ordering the fast, but probably it is older. Leo the Great (440-461) considers it an Apostolic institution.”īy the time of Pope Gregory I, who died in 601 AD, they were observed for all four seasons though the date of each of them could vary. “At first the Church in Rome had fasts in June, September, and December the exact days were not fixed but were announced by the priests. Like Rogation Days, Ember Days developed early in these times, taking the form that would continue for centuries. Despite our undeserving, God has given us access to this gift and we owe Him an immense amount of gratitude and we should show our love for Him by striving to receive this gift and share it with the world.Ember days are categorized by three elements: prayers for both thanksgiving and petition, penance in the form of fasting and abstinence, and ordinations. Today and this coming Friday and Saturday, let’s spend time in prayer and fasting as we reflect on the great gift of the Holy Spirit and how we can better receive Him in our souls. When we fast along with our prayers, we are aiding in this by weakening our attachments to earthly things and strengthening the bonds with the things of Heaven.Įmber days remind us of who we are and Who God is, and they invite us to atone for what causes the gap between those two things, insofar as we are able. Taking these days to pray, fast, and reflect on what obstacles prevent us personally from receiving the Holy Spirit and to atone for our sins helps us to make room in our souls to truly be a worthy dwelling place for the Spirit with His help. We are sinners and so cannot have the Holy Spirit dwell in us without His help. We exercise them in reparation for our sins and for other special intentions we might have, particularly for the Church and Her members.Įmber days may seem to fit better in those seasons of a more penitential nature, like Advent and Lent, and these seasons do in fact have their own Ember days, but the purpose of Ember days during the Octave of Pentecost is to remind us that in order to truly receive the Holy Spirit, we must humble ourselves before God and recognize that we are nothing without Him. They are days to be spent in prayer and sacrifice (fasting is encouraged) and they remind us what God has done for us and that we are in debt to Him and are undeserving of His kindnesses. Ember days are days of a penitential nature that fall during different times of the year and they are usually on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. However, this year in the traditional rite, May 31 falls during the Octave of Pentecost (which was its own octave before Vatican II) and it is also on a Wednesday, so it is what’s called an Ember Day. Today, in the Novus Ordo rite, the Feast of the Visitation is celebrated and in the traditional rite, the Queenship of the Virgin Mary is usually celebrated. Inoreader android11/10/2023 You can then subscribe to those RSS feeds en masse. Reader scans every document for the presence of an RSS feed and then uses some AI/light heuristics to filter the high signal feeds from the low. You can even forward them to your Reader Feed and save content that way.Īll this being said, we do have a cool discovery feature based on articles you've saved to Reader. You can of course subscribe to those newsletters and still save those links into Reader. Also, we prefer to take a neutral stance on a lot of this content as opposed to introducing a cultural or political bias. Our users are suffering more from content overload than lack of discovery so this hasn't been a priority for us. Yes, the text is permanently stored, but not the media at the moment. I will say this is still early adopter territory though so I wouldn't wade in unless you identify as such. There's a new breed of Android-driven eink tablets coming out though such as Boox where some users are installing the Reader app. On Kindle, you can send one-off articles through a variety of pre-existing means. Kindle and Kobo are both closed platforms. I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my ability. The full text search is a bonus.įinally, has anyone compared Reader to Upnext and Matter? They seem to be attempting to fill gaps in the same space? What is the export functionality like? I like the fact that Readwise hasn't taken on a bunch of VC money, and they're attempting to create a sustainable offering, but I'm always worried about going 'all in' with SaaS apps, especially that end up with so much of your data, and become and integrated part daily life.ĭoes anyone use Raindrop along side Reader, or instead of? I see Raindrop as more of a bookmarking and archiving service. Does Reader have the same or similar feature? If not, can the Discover feed from Pocket be added as a source maybe? With Matter and Pocket, some of the 'Staff Picks' and 'Discover' articles are sometimes interesting. Is it possible to consume Reader content on an e-reader, like Kindle or Kobo?Īre articles in Reader actually saved in full (either locally, or on Readwise servers)? I'm always concerned about stuff disappearing online, and it seems that with Pocket at least, the article is fetched from the original source each time. My workflow to date is pretty much non-existent and best described as chaos - open tabs everywhere, bookmarks, notes, email newsletters etc. I'm taking the time over the Christmas/NY break to get some sort of order to my content consumption. Lion country safari discount11/10/2023 ![]() ![]() For comparison sake, the Palm Beach Zoo would cost a family of four $88 (without taking into account any discount) and does offer the typical AZA member discount. We had an $8 off/person coupon but that still means for a family of four (with two kids), it cost us $114 (without tax). This admission price does not include tax or an extra $8 for “parking,” which is a blatant rip off charge, especially if you are only doing the safari part and you never actually park your car.Įven though this park is an AZA member, it doesn’t offer an AZA member reciprocity discount like other AZA zoos do. Regular admission prices are $39 and $30 for a kid 3-9. Much more money than a typical zoo and there is no option to just buy the safari and not the amusement/water park. The amusement park rides are very basic and comparable to what one would find at a county fair midway for kids.īiggest disappointment is the price. Don’t miss the boat ride, which goes around islands of spider monkeys and feeding the giraffes (bunch of lettuce cost $5). There are a several animal exhibits inside the amusement park, so you may want to stop even if you don’t want to ride the rides. ![]() Main restaurant serves the normal sandwiches, burgers, and hot dogs but it is done buffet style, so you don’t have to wait for the food to be cooked. We were very impressed by the friendliness of the employees, especially on the amusement rides and the food service. Takes about an hour to drive through and you can go through as many times as you wish. All of the rest of the animals can cross the road at anytime. I believe the only two animals on the drive through safari that you can’t really drive through are the lions (separated from the road by fences) and the orangutans (separates by a moat from the road). This safari park is also AZA accredited, which speaks to the quality of the care and the variety of animals you will see. This is probably better for the animals and your car. Unlike other drive through safari parks we have been to, you cannot feed the animals at this one. The admission to the rides and water park are included with the admission to the drive through Safari. Really impressive drive through Safari animal park and as a bonus there is a small amusement/water park that mainly caters to kids 8 and under. Ibe extensions cost11/10/2023 ![]() I have tried the Hidden Crown Halo and several different clip-in options but they all gave me a headache! This is the first brand/technique that hasn’t caused headaches and I love the way they look! Can you work out/pull your hair up with these extensions? This is my first time having permanent fixed extensions! I LOVE them. We will see what is feasible when that time comes! What other brand of extensions have you used? I hope to! I know it will be harder once the baby comes this fall, but if I can’t keep up with the extensions I hope to at least go to Chrissy for color and then possibly figure out a clip-in possibility to stretch my time in between going. There is a pricing page on the website as well. The best bet is to text Chrissy at 48 with your current hair, hair goals (a photo helps) and she can get back with you a quote. ![]() This is dependent on your hair goals and natural hair, how many rows you get, how much hair is used, the color you want, etc. I thought I would be able to go more like 10-12 weeks, but with my hair growing so fast, 9 weeks was the limit for me! However, when you go in for the second time, you will get the rows moved up rather than purchasing new hair each time! How much does it cost? You will need to get your extensions moved up every 8-ish weeks, depending on your natural growth. I have highlights and lowlights, but I’m unsure on the exact colors and technique used to create my exact color combination. I just told Chrissy to do what she wanted and I’ve LOVED it both times. What color did you get?Ĭhrissy’s team evaluates your needs based on your hair goals as well as your natural hair. The rows and wefts vary per persons natural hair. This is all dependent on your natural hair and how thick it is already. I have 2 rows with a mini row, and each row has 2-3 wefts. The technique that Chrissy and her team use is called Habit Hand-Tied Extensions where the wefts are added to your hair by beading and then hand-tying the wefts to your natural hair. The brand of hair is called Bombshell and it’s created by Chrissy who is the owner of Habit Salon in Gilbert, AZ. I thought it would just be easiest to jump right in to the questions that you all have asked, and please let me know if you end up having more questions or ones that are unanswered and I’ll add them! What brand are your extensions? Little did I know, the technique and the team changed my life and allowed me to live my best hair life ever! Truly! I’m going to share all about the extensions today, answering TONS of your questions that you’ve had over the past few months. About 3 months ago, I was introduced to Chrissy at Habit Salon to get Habit Hand-Tied Hair Extensions. Ethernet over coax adapter11/9/2023 ![]() ![]() Can MoCA Adapters Share Coax Jacks with Other Equipment? ![]() Inspect your router/modem for a second coax jack, the marking "MoCA" on the case near that coax jack, and check the documentation for the product to see if it supports MoCA. This means that you can use the modem itself as a MoCA adapter and, thus, need to purchase one less adapter for your needs. While not nearly as widespread and ubiquitous as Wi-Fi, Verizon and Comcast have included MoCA support on a number of their residential gateways for quite a few years now. You can always use your MoCA system with your broadband provider's equipment in the sense that the MoCA adapters are Ethernet devices and can be plugged right into your broadband modem/router.īut some broadband providers have modem/router models that directly support MoCA. Can MoCA Work Directly with My Existing Broadband Equipment? While there is some overlap between some of the frequencies used by cable modems using the DOCSIS 3.1 standard, the overlap is irrelevant because the communication is happening between the cable company and the cable modem, not throughout the house.įurther, we'll cover a tip in the next section to keep your MoCA network signal from "leaking" past your cable modem and out of your home. Typically, you should have no issues with combining a cable modem and a MoCA home network deployment. If you are one of the millions of people who get internet access through their local cable company, however, this is a natural question. If you have fiber, or any other non-cable delivered internet you didn't give it a second thought. Some satellite providers have dabbled with offering MoCA hardware that uses a different sub-frequency than standard consumer MoCA hardware, like Can I Use MoCA if I Have Cable Internet? The important thing to understand is that what matters is what frequency the other things on the coaxial infrastructure are using. It is not a requirement, however, and MoCA can co-exist with other services that use your home's coaxial cable. It's ideal to use unused or "dark" coax simply because there is zero chance of interference or problems if you are using your home's coax infrastructure for nothing but MoCA. And, even better, you can add a cheap line filter to the coax leaving your home to effectively block the MoCA signal from leaving, ensuring only someone with physical access to your home could access your MoCA network. Since version MoCA 2.1 it has supported encryption and enhanced privacy measures.įurther, because it's a physical cable-based standard transmission is limited to the physical coaxial network it is connected to. While newer MoCA hardware won't default to old speeds across the whole network just because an older device is present, everyone connected to the old MoCA adapter will underperform by comparison. Mixing really old MoCA hardware with brand new MoCA hardware is a recipe for lackluster performance, though. Ideally, however, you'll use current generation hardware to take advantage of all the improvements to the standards over the years. MoCA 2.5 is backward compatible all the way to MoCA 1.1. MoCA adapters are interchangeable, just like Ethernet devices. Practically, wiring quality and conditions vary greatly, and you can expect around 1Gbps connections between network devices (and up to what your internet provider delivers otherwise). On paper, MoCA 2.5 supports 2.5Gbps transfer. MoCA 2.5 offers a host of improvements in terms of speed, ease of setup, and so on. While there are still MoCA 2.0 adapters on the market, we recommend everyone skip them and jump straight to buying MoCA 2.5 adapters. Just like you wouldn't buy a Wi-FI 802.11b adapter today, you wouldn't buy a MoCA 1.0 adapter. Just like there are different generations/versions of other networking standards like Ethernet and Wi-Fi, there are different versions of MoCA. How Fast Is MoCA? Are There Different Versions?
